Frequently Asked Questions

Jetting

A cleaning process using high pressure water scouring.

Q: I was told that I need a jetter! Is it really needed?

A: The generic term "jetting" is often over used by people that really just mean "the line needs to be cleaned". It is a more expensive method and it does a great job, but quite often it isn't practical. Jetting is great for greasy lines, commercial properties, restaurants and homes that require the line as clean as possible for inspections.

Q: Is jetting harmful to the pipes?

A: If the drain line is in good condition, it should not be an issue. We have cleaned thousands of lines with no problems. Clay, PVC and cast iron have no problems with this if they are in good condition. A jetter will not fix a broken line and should not go down a line that has been damaged. I also wouldn't use it on Bituminized fiber pipe "Orangeburg" .

Cable Cleaning

Conventional drain cleaning using cable equipment. Often called Snaking or Rotor Rooting

Q; What is cable cleaning best used for?

This method of drain cleaning has been the go-to method for clearing blockages and maintaining drains since about the 1930s. It uses blades and cable spinning in the drain to scrape the walls and clear blockages.

Q: Is cable cleaning safe for pipes?

If the pipe is in good condition this is a safe method. If chemicals have been used that compromise the line, if the line has damage a cable may find those problems. If the line has those problems it needs to be repaired anyway. Cable wont harm healthy pipe.

Video Inspections and Locating

Video inspections and sewer locates.

Q; Do I need a video inspection?

A: If you want to know the condition of the pipe you do. We can get a good feel for a line with blades and cable. However, we can not see down the line to know if there are problems or if we missed a spot in the cleaning process. We do the best we can while we are cleaning but we can't see down the line without it. We love to verify that the cleaning is as good as possible, but it is up to the client if it is worth the time and expense.

Q: Can you just clean the line? I have my own inspector.

A: I am happy to clean the line while your inspector is there! It is much better to do the inspection at the time of cleaning, whether it is us or another inspector. We try very hard to do a perfect cleaning and we usually do, but if we miss a minor issue we will have to charge for the return trip. Home sales are much more finicky than a cleaning that is good enough for general sewer use.

General Questions.

Ask us anything!

Q: Do you do plumbing work?

A: We specialize in cleaning drains and this is our forte. We do work closely with a few plumbers and drain layers. We will do minor things to allow us cleaning access.

Q: Do you work on grease traps?

A: Absolutely! Quite often we can save you the expense of an emergency vacuum service. We cable clean or Hydro-Jet trap lines. We also work on sand traps, septic systems, lift station lines and interceptors. We can get vacuum services if needed.

Q: What chemicals do you recommend?

We don't! They are dangerous to people, pipes and our equipment.

Q: Are flushable wipes flushable?

A: They will usually make it through the toilet but they are a nightmare in the drain lines. The same goes for paper towels.

Cast iron pipe

Q; What is your opinion of cast iron pipe?

A: Cast iron was great back in the day, before low-volume toilets. It is difficult to inspect due to its texture and coloring. Here is a video that demonstrates what low-flow toilets and cast iron do typically. In this short video, you can see how the rough texture of cast iron causes paper to ball up. With this condition present, there is no way to guarantee that the line will remain open.
